A Survey Not to Take

For the first time, I decided today to warn against participating in a study. In the [P-Punkte Forum][https://forum.p-punkte.de/topic/274/studie-hidden-sexual-fantasies-der-universit%C3%A4t-bonn], we discussed the current study [“Hidden Sexual Fantasies”] (https://www.soscisurvey.de/sexuellefantasie/) from the University of Bonn. Three points of criticism stood out in the discussion:

  • The questions do not distinguish between behavior and fantasies. On the topic of pedophilia, for example, the question asks, “How often have you exhibited corresponding sexual behavior in your life,” without clarifying whether the inquiry is about sexual masturbation fantasies or child abuse. So do we answer “many times” or “never”? And however we answer, how is it going to be interpreted?
  • The participation of Mr. Rainer Banse, who, according to Sirius and https://birvp.de/methodische-stellungnahmen/, essentially promotes (and profits from) a sexual preference screening to keep pedophiles out of various professions.
  • Several participants in the P-Punkte forum reported having discontinued the questionnaire, citing the study design as the reason. It was described as “extremely poor” and “tedious.”

In light of these concerns and quality issues, I cannot in good conscience recommend the study and actually advise against participating.
